Bhavnagari Chilly Poppers

First let me introduce you to the main ingredient of the Dish – Bhavnagari Chillies. They are long in form and their spiciness level is mild. Bhavnagari Chillies are a good substitute of jalapenos.

Inspiration of this dish comes from a restaurant in Lower Parel – The Barking Deer Brew Pub.This starter is an excellent combination of chilly and cheese.

Makes 10 stuffed Chillies

Ingredients : 

10 Bhavnagari Chillies

Oil for Deep Frying

For the stuffing:

1/2 cup Corn

1/2 cup Capsicum

1/2 cup Red Bell peppers

4 tbsp processed cheese (Shredded)

1 tbsp Cheese Spread (optional)

Black Pepper Powder as per taste

salt as per taste

Oregano/ mixed herbs as per taste

For Outer Crust:

4 tbsp Refined Flour

4 tbsp Cornflour

Water (as required)

Bread Crumbs

Procedure: 

To prepare stuffing,take all the vegetables in a bowl. Add the mentioned spices and cheese (You can change the quantity of cheese as per your preference) to it. Mix well and keep the stuffing aside.

Slit and deseed the chillies in the following manner

Divide the prepared stuffing in 10 equal portion and stuff the chillies with it.

To prepare slurry, mix cornflour and refined flour. Add water (as required) to form a smooth paste.

Dip each chilly into the slurry and coat it with bread crumbs. You can repeat the same process to make the poppers crunchy.

Gently place the chillies in the hot oil. Fry till they turn golden brown.

Your Bhavnagari Chilly Poppers are ready. Serve them hot with your favorite dip.
